Makeup Holy Grails

I love experimenting with makeup but find it hard to find the perfect product. So through trial and error, I have found a few products that I keep coming back to again and again and thought I would share some!

These products are on the pricier side but in my experience, when it comes to makeup, spending a little bit more money for quality pays off. So as promised in my Makeup No-Goes, I’ve come up with a list of my all time favourite products!

Lip Cover (Overheated) | Nars

This formula has to be my favourite liquid lipstick of all time. It is not drying at all but has a beautiful matte finish and is such a lovely brown shade. I was devastated when I found out that this was a limited edition colour but I have faith in the other Nars liquid lipsticks!

The POREfessional Primer | Benefit Cosmetics

I have had a lot of trouble finding a good primer. I have tried so many from drug store to high end and they have all either done nothing for my skin or caused it to break out. That is why I have loved the POREfessional Primer. Not only does it help my makeup look flawless for longer, it feels so soft and velvety on the skin.

Naked 2 Basics | Urban Decay

This would have to be the best starter palette I own. The colours are easy to work with and perfect for a neutral look. I like to use this as a base for other colours or just by itself for a really natural eyeshadow look.

De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray | Urban Decay

I use this setting spray any time I wear makeup – whether it be just powder during the day or a full face at night. I find the finish of my makeup always looks better with this and definitely lasts a lot longer without getting oily.

Maestro Eraser | Giorgio Armarni

This concealer is fantastic for a little bit of brightening and coverage under the eyes. It is so easily blendable and light. I found that so many other concealers I tried were really thick and visible but the Maestro Eraser concealer perfectly covers any darkness, and you only need the smallest amount.

Rollerlash Mascara | Benefit Cosmetics

Finding the perfect mascara took me a long time to find. I have now been using the Rollerlash Mascara for the past 2 years and haven’t been able to find anything that comes close to it. Not only is it a perfectly dark black colour, it curls and lengthens the lashes as well! I can’t speak highly enough about this mascara!

Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation |Chanel

This foundation was an absolute lifesaver for me. I had gone through so many foundations that would make my skin oily and break out, weren’t the right shade, were too heavy – you name it. I came across the Vitalumiere Aqua foundation and thought I would give it a go and I wasn’t disappointed. It is really buildable and blends beautifully so you can have a light to high coverage look. It is water based so doesn’t add any extra oil to the face and on top of that, it smells beautiful.

Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadow | Kiko Cosmetics

I bought a few of eyeshadow sticks from Kiko on sale when I was in Italy, knowing nothing about the brand. They are so highly pigmented, shimmery and incredibly easy to work with. I usually just put it on my lid and then blend another shadow in the crease. They will stay on all night without creasing or rubbing off and are very easy to get off. My only regret is that I didn’t buy more!

Let me know below what are some of your all time favourites?

January Favourites

Starboy by The Weeknd

I think I have been listening to this album non-stop since it came out so it definitely had to be in my favourites. I love the RnB beats and his voice is just beautiful! It’s generally quite a mellow album, I love listening to it while I’m driving.

Red Eyeshadow

I recently made an order from Colourpop and purchased a deep red eyeshadow to make a smokey red eye. I was inspired by Lindseyrem‘s ‘wearable dead’ look and have now been wearing the look every time I go out. The eyeshadow itself is very creamy and pigmented and incredibly easy to apply.

Fishnets have recently become very popular and I have loved this trend. I love wearing fishnets with basically anything, I just think it adds a really cool element to your outfit. Particularly if they are an interesting colour!

Y-3 Platforms

I recently purchased some secondhand Y-3 Platform shoes and have fallen in love with them. They are the weirdest and probably the least wearable shoes I own but I was compelled to buy them because of their uniqueness.

DIY Clothes

Years ago I took a fashion class in high school and fell in love with sewing and clothes design. And recently I have gotten back into designing and making some clothes. Buying vintage items and changing them up or designing and making items from scratch has definitely been a favourite activity from this month!

TV: A Series of Unfortunate Events and Jane the Virgin

Two TV series I have finished recently have been A Series of Unfortunate Events and Jane the Virgin. There couldn’t be two more different shows but they both were very entertaining. Neil Patrick Harris killed it as Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events. I loved the whole look of the show with it’s kind of distorted, dark reality. It really reminded me of the dark style of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Jane the Virgin was just a lighthearted drama/comedy which was really fun to relax to and watch. I particularly liked the telanovela style of the show and Gina Rodriguez is hilarious!

11 Tips You Need To Know Before Going To A Music Festival

It’s festival season finally! I am so excited for all the summer festivals coming up in Australia so I’ve put together a few of my festival tips which will hopefully help all you festival-goers out!

Comfortable shoes are a must

You are going to be on your feet all day and you don’t want to miss out because you had to sit down. Bring comfortable, preferably flat shoes that you don’t mind getting ruined/lost. The most important thing is that they are closed toe – you don’t want people stepping on your exposed toes in the mosh. And if it’s muddy, wear runners or gumboots. And bring at least 1 back up pair just in case!

Bring a light jacket

Bringing a light jacket or jumper that you can fit in your bag will be your lifesaver for the cooler nights. You don’t want to be freezing and miserable so bringing a back-up will help you out. Worst case scenario if you get cold, get into the mosh and you’ll warm up quickly!

Hat and sunglasses are essential

In the hot Australian sun you would be stupid to go to an all day festival without some sort of sun protection. You can even incorporate your protection into your outfit so you look good and are being sun smart at the same time.

When you get to your camping space, mark your territory

You most likely won’t have much room so when you are assigned your area, make sure you spread out and use it all or someone next to you will take your space!

Comfy but cute

This is always my go-to when figuring out what I’m wearing for festivals. You need to dress strategically because there is no point looking good if all you want is to get it off or have to keep readjusting every 10 minutes. Just remember, you are there to enjoy the music, your friends, and anything else the festival has to offer and if you’re comfortable, you’ll be able to enjoy yourself all day and night.

Bring portable chargers

If you’re like me, you will want to have your phone charged for the festival. So I recommend investing in a portable charger so you can be contactable during your time in the festival.

Plan your outfits before you go

Preparation is key with festival outfits. Not only will you know it will look good because you pre-planned it, you won’t be packing a bunch of unnecessary clothes. You don’t want to be sorting outfits out in your tent! Bring 1 different option for unexpected weather and you’re set!

Go light on the makeup

Wear makeup you know will look good after a day of sweating/rain/dust/dirt etc. and is easy to apply – especially if you’re camping, you don’t want to be doing a full face of makeup. I usually stick to face powder as my base and make it look nicer and more festival with eyeliner and glitter.

Take a bag that’s easy to hold

When you’re at the festival, you’ll need somewhere to hold all your stuff. Avoid really chunky bags or clutches you need to hold all day. I recommend a small, flat backpack, cross body bag or even a bumbag to keep all your essentials in.

Only pack non-perishable food

I know you will want to save money on food and not buy everything at the festival but you can only pack so much in eskis etc. If you are camping out in the middle of summer, pack sealed snack foods like biscuits or chips and plan to buy main meals.

You can shower!

People say that you can’t or won’t shower at festivals but keeping good hygiene is so important and not actually that hard! First of all, most, if not all, festival sites have showers for you to use. Yes, they might not be the best showers ever but at least you’ll be clean. And if your campsite is near a beach, go for a swim and shower at the beach showers! Don’t resort to the so-called ‘babywipe showers’.

Above all, just enjoy yourselves and be safe!

Makeup No-Goes

I love trying new makeup products and finding the perfect ones for me but along the way I have run into some that just haven’t worked out. So I thought I’d share some of those that didn’t go so well for me – enjoy!

The POREfessional: Agent Zero Shine | Benefit

Let me start by saying that I love Benefit products, it’s actually kind of sad how much Benefit I have and use in my daily routine. I am always looking for products to mattify my skin as it can get oily throughout the day and thought that if anything would work, it would be this but I was unfortunately disappointed. I have seen some really good reviews of this but it didn’t seem to do anything for my skin, I may as well have not been wearing it.

Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Graphite in Exposure | Hourglass

I bought this eyeshadow palette after it was used on me for an event so I thought that it was a failsafe option – sadly it wasn’t. As it turned out, I believe that she mixed palettes and colours to achieve my look because any time I have tried to use it, it has never worked out. Basically, the whole palette lacks any sort of pigment. I have tried wetting the brush and packing so much product onto the brush and only the faintest colour showed up. I was so excited because the colours looked beautiful but unfortunately, it just doesn’t look the same on the eyes. So I recommend swatching before buying to not make the same mistake I did!

Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer | Maybelline

I had heard such good things about this concealer and picked it up in the lightest shade to use under my eyes as a brightening concealer. I found, however, that it was a really thick formula that was quite difficult to blend and it creased immediately, and the creases remained even after I set it. Not only did the formula not impress, it really didn’t brighten or conceal anything and I was just left with heavy, creased under-eyes. Not to mention the sponge applicator didn’t seem to be the most hygienic way to apply the concealer! Unfortunately this just didn’t work for me! (Unfortunately I had already thrown this out so I couldn’t take a pic of it!)

Essa 12 Piece Brush Set | Kryolan

This brush set has a lot of different brushes all in one so I thought that it would work as replacements for some of my existing brushes but I was really disappointed with the set. I was most in need of a powder brush but the brush sheds every time I use it, doesn’t pick up products and also is fraying at the edges as you can see in the picture. The eyeshadow brushes were also a let down and didn’t blend or apply product well at all. I will say though that the contour brush wasn’t bad but 1/10 brushes aren’t good odds!

Velour Liquid Lipstick (Drug Lord) | Jeffree Star Cosmetics

Everyone was raving about the Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks and I thought I would give it a go with a very odd choice of colour. I chose the white colour to try out something different and was quite disappointed by the lipstick. When I applied it, it was streaky and left patches on my lips. I tried to do two coats and it helped slightly with the coverage but just felt heavy and still looked streaky. I am aware that it is supposed to be worn with other lipsticks but even then, I wasn’t impressed when it was mixed. However, because it is such an unusual colour not really meant to be worn by itself I’m going to give it the benefit of the doubt!

What products have you tried that haven’t lived up to their hype? Let me know!

PS. Stay tuned for my holy grail products!

[Disclaimer: this is just my opinion, they may work perfectly for you! I love a lot of other products these brands make so nothing against the brands either – just these particular products didn’t work for me!]

September Favourites

Laura Mercier

I have been on the hunt for a super light coverage foundation to wear when I want a bit more coverage than just my daily powder and I have finally found the perfect one! I am absolutely in love with my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser – Oil Free. It literally feels like nothing on the skin (I hate feeling like I’m wearing makeup), makes your skin look beautiful and is very long lasting!

I bought the Translucent Loose Setting Powder at the same time and while it took some getting used to, I now love it. I learnt through trial and error that only the slightest amount of powder is necessary otherwise it leaves a white cast!

Allday Concert and Jumper

Allday is an amazing Australian rapper and one of my all time favourite artists. He toured this month and it was phenomenal! I saw him earlier this year at a festival where he had a shorter set so it was great to see him doing a full length show. Not only was his concert amazing, I bought his tour sweatshirt which is the most comfortable jumper of my life and I have been wearing it non-stop. And to top it all off, my friends and I ran into him outside after the show!

Mount Ninji and Da Nice Time Kid by Die Antwoord

Die Antwoord have release a lot of new music in the past few months with their mixtape Suck On This being released in May and 4th album Mount Ninji and Da Nice Time Kid released in September. Their new album has to be the weirdest of them all and I’m loving it! I definitely get freak show vibes with songs like Rats Rule and many songs have an American sound, with influences coming from living in LA and working with DJ Muggs from Cyprus Hill. I have loved listening to this album from start to finish many times!

TV: American Horror Story and Scream Queens

Two of my favourite TV shows are finally back on! Season 6 of American Horror Story is shaping up to be a really good one, I was hooked after the first episode! If you like really good horror/thriller/suspense shows, AHS is for you!

Scream Queens on the other hand is more of a comedy/horror show. This season features actors like John Stamos and Taylor Lautner, joining an already fabulous cast for a killer season, now set in a hospital.

I have been crazy about mesh anything for a couple months now and I have worn these two latest purchases all month and I’m still loving them. Again, they are from my favourite brand The Ragged Priest. I feel like I never stop talking about them but I can’t help it!

June Favourites

I thought I’d go through some of my favourite things from the month as I’ve bought some new things, gotten onto some new tv shows and music. So here are some of my favourite things from June!

Views by Drake

I know I’m about a month late with this one but I’ve finally given Drake’s new album Views a good listen and it’s awesome! It has such a cool, relaxed vibe to it and I’ve been loving listening to it on my drives.

Becca highlighter

Every Youtuber and makeup guru has been raving about the Becca highlighters. I finally got my hands on the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal and they were right, it’s beautiful! It is highly pigmented, the first time I put it on I looked like a disco ball, so use sparingly!

TV: Reign and Bates Motel

The two tv shows that I’ve recently started are Reign and Bates Motel. I have become slightly obsessed with both of them during my uni break and have been watching them non-stop. Reign is a great pick is you like historical dramas as it follows the life and story of Mary, Queen of Scots, and Bates Motel is based on the horror/thriller Psycho but set in the modern day. I highly recommend both!

Sneakers are by far my favourite shoes to wear day to day. These white platform NO NAME sneakers have made many appearances in my posts and for good reason! They are the most comfortable and easy shoes to wear for any activity.

Bomber jacket

Bomber jackets in general have been a favourite of mine for the past few months but a couple weeks ago I purchased this Princess Polly bomber and have been wearing it non-stop. It’s quite warm and good to layer on days when its not too cold but you need a bit more than just a jumper.

The Ragged Priest

I discovered the brand The Ragged Priest this month and fell in love with the clothes. I ordered a couple of items and the jeans have been an absolute favourite of mine this month!
